Tyla, who has the international hit song water and who is also Grammy Awards recipient has made history as she became the first female African artist to win the MTV VMA Awards.
She also becomes the first South African to win this prestigious award.
Nominated in the Best Afrobeats Category alongside Ayra Starr, Davido, Tems, Lojay and Pheelz, she ended up the victor as her song Water ensured that she ended the night victorious.
During her acceptance speech, She said that African music can be categorised as POP and not restricted to Afrobeats only. She spoke of her admiration for other artists who were nominated in the same category with her.
